Terry Cryer - Photography
We are delighted to be showing an eloquent and revealing series of jazz and blues portraits of the 1950’s and 60’s by renowned veteran photographer Terry Cryer. Despite having retired several years ago we are honoured that Terry agreed to return to the darkroom briefly to print some additional images exclusively for this exhibition.
Leeds born Terry quickly rose to prominence thanks to his spontaneous and atmospheric shots of such legends as Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Memphis Slim. He travelled across the USA in the 1950s, documenting the music scene there, before returning to the UK to work for Jazz News.
Alongside Terry’s images will be new photography by Steven Fairclough, whose innovative use of portraiture explores the character of his subject with insightful and unexpected results.
Also showcased - exciting new collections of original hand produced jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles and sculpture. Several new ceramicists, jewellers and glass blowers are introduced alongside the wide range of artists and makers currently represented by the gallery. All will be providing original works for the show in our light and spacious craft gallery. These will be displayed together with a variety of beautiful handmade cards and gifts, making it the perfect place to pick up some ideas for Christmas or simply to treat yourself !
